Guys,

We have a Cisco 2610 that randomly power resets, we have one serial interface, one ISDN interface and the onboard ethernet interface. We've had external power checked to the branch and no issues have been found. We've put the network cabinet on a isolated UPS and had the electrical input changed on to a different phase (from Blue to Red).

So far we have changed the router 3 times and the other components in the branch a number of times, but the problem remains.

Has any one seen anything vaugely like this ever - help - end of our wits - any responce would be appreciated.

You say you replaced the router 3 times, so you have had three different routers connected and all three are doing the same thing? If not and you have had the same router all three times check the show version and see why it reloaded and post that here.

Thanks bf0x for the response, we have changed the actual router three times and put in three different routers. teh Show version displays a power reload FYI.

Regards

Thats definately a strange one. I know this is going to sound wierd but have you moved the router or one that you used to replace it with and physically moved it to another corner of the building or even take it home. Also not sure if you tried replacing the power strip and power cord. The power may check out good but that does not mean it is. Intermittent problems will always give you headaches. Hope this helps. I feel your pain.

Hi goldearth

can you paste the full output of 'sh version' command here to enable me to make an assessment of a possible cause of your problem.

cheers!

Hi goldearth

Have you ensured the router is not overheating as this can cause the router to reset itself.

cheers!

Goldearth,

Some things to think about/try.

Are you using console logging? Buffers full? IS this router monitored to the point you know about when it reloads? How often is it happening? Are you using an external syslog server? Enable logging for the informational level, that way you get everything. A free version can be found here. Real easy to set up just need a normal PC, doesnt have to be a server.

We had an issue with a server that kept shutting down and then rebooting 10 minutes later almost every night. On the audit trails is where we found it. We couldnt figure it out. So we picked a person to sit in the room and watch the server to see the why. around 0300 the maid walked in uplugged something, server died and she vacuumed the room. We now had the cause and a security violation. So changed the locks no more problems.

Do a show tech command and get the current stats of the router. enable remote monitoring and check the processor, memory, interface loads. Monitor the heat. Change the circuit that the router is sitting on completely, not just the phase. I remember reading on CCO that Cisco's official response to a 2600 continously rebooting was sun spots...I laughed pretty hard, but maybe? I looked again but couldnt find it.

Have you opened a TAC case? You dont need a full contract to do so just a CCO account, which is free. They will want the sh tech and a sh ver results at a minimum.

Have you checked to see if the verion of the IOS you are using has issues?
