What version (feature set and ver#) are you trying to load? And how much flash is on the router? 32D is the default DRAM, as is 8M Flash... A 10mb IOS sounds like an upgraded feature pack....
You say hanging.... that's an odd scenario.. usual errors are typo's in the filename or the router and/or tftp server ip addresses. All of these will cause no load.
I assume the link light is on on the router ethernet port??
Some older versions of 2600 bootrom would crash during the checksum comparison, so if that's your problem, you and either upgrade bootrom, or set the router not to do the checksum comparison... something like SET TFTP_CHECKSUM=1 maybe??
If your router has no IOS on it then you can't possibly configure the ethernet port with an IP address in order to use a TFTP server. You need to use xmodem/ymodem and transfer the image via the console port.
Ok, I got it loaded, turns out the image was too big, and I had a bad patch cable.. lol. 32mb Ram, and 8Mb Flash.
So ive got it loaded up with 12.1(2)T
And Chris your wrong. I dont even have a CCNA and Know how to set up the Eth0/0 interface to have an ip from rommon.
Then you xfer the image over the interface using the tftpdnld command.
Like this:
rommon> IP_ADDRESS=192.168.0.100
rommon> IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0
rommon> DEFAULT_GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
I just got myself one of the 2611s with 32/8, most likely w/out an IOS on it too. I was wondering if you have any tips for me on getting an IOS on it, which one will work/which one won't, and things NOT to do. also, where did you get the IOS from?

you'll have to beg barrow or steal to get a ios without being a member though. You might email them and ask them very very politely to give you a download link for your router.
Thank You SkyHawkTech! maybe i should do this - ask & beg & steal ... might be a good idea.
anyways,
The person i am getting this router from had just replied back to me and informed me that the IOS is either
"c2600-i-mz.121-2.T" or "c2600-i-mz.122-10a"
can someone please explain to me the "i", "mz" then the "2.t" and the "10a"
Thanks in advance
