cisco 2524 router HELP. I can't ping my serial interface

i have 2 2524 connected together with a serial cable. i configure both serials on both routers but when i tried to ping my seial on locally on both routers i get a timeout.

i checked the cable it seems fine. any suggestions?

You are trying to ping from S0/0 on one router to S0/0 on another router?

If so the best way to configure 2 serial interfaces is as follows:-

router>en
password:
router#conf t
router(conf)#int s0/0
router(conf-if)#ip address 10.2.1.1 255.255.255.252
router(conf-if)#no shutdown
ctrl + z

On the second router configure the interface to be as follows:-

10.2.1.2 255.255.255.252

You may need to set a clock rate as well.

Try pinging without the clock rate.
If clock rate is required try 64 as follows:-

Clock rate 64

This sets it to 64000.

ip routing on both routers are enabled. and i enabled clock rate on dce router. i both routers are up up too. but i can't ping the serial port on either router.

I have just completed a simulated test and it works fine using the following:-

router1 s0 : 10.2.1.1 255.255.255.252
DCE so clockrate set to 64k
No shutdown

Router2 s0 : 10.2.1.2 255.255.255.252
no shutdown

Ping success rate 5/5 100%

Where it says "Serial 1 is up line protocol is up" indicates that there is no problem with the link from a cable or protocol perspective.
Double check both configurations and if need be start again.

Do you have a topology you can post? Do a sh int on both routers, too and post the output. If encapsulations mismatch, your line protocol would be down. Try shutting them both down and bringing them both back up, and try switching the DCE and DTE---I usually clock both ends in case the cable is mislabelled. Did I spell that correctly? Is it "mislabeled" with one "l" at the end? Like "gases"---I used to spell it "gasses". Anyway, ...

i should be able to ping at least the serial interface. i can only ping my ethernet inferface. do i need to end able dce/dte on both routers?

..i didnt now you could ping your e. interface..
....i thought you said you couldnt ping your loopback..which would be a major problem..

..so you did a "show controller" found the dce end, and added clock rate to that end.
..and also verified encapsulation matches on both interfaces..

...i dont want to say its the cable yet...because the up up state..

...could you try a different encapasulation like frame relay.. "back to back"
..just a suggestion..also if you do..i think you have to use "no keep alive"
...
...also..i saw a alot of interface resets on one of the serial interfaces....not sure if this could give us a hint
