Hi All

I am in the process of currently doing my CCNA, for which I have been provided with a Cisco 2511 router to work with, when setting up the ethernet port and then issuing the no shutdown command it all appears to be working, however I am not able to ping the ip at all and then when running sh interface I am getting protocol up but line protocol down, you guys got any idea at all by the way.
Thanks
CK

This is output from the sh interface command

thernet0 is up, line protocol is down

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

I have managed to fix this fault by the way by using the no keepalive command

First, how you are accesing the router, through console ?
Second, some types of 2511 have AUI connector for LAN, you have to use AUI-UTP tranceiver and have proper cable connected to
a: for hub, or switch, normal UTP cable
b: for direct connection to PC lan card, must have crosover cable.
From the reading of sh int, it is obvious
65 lost carrier, 0 no carrier
there is no cable connected, hub faulty, tranceiver faulty, and the worse, port faulty.
