if someone could help me get this router going again, it would be much appreciated.

well first you got to make a copy of the ios from the other router
download tftpd run it, and then on the working router type

copy flash:1841-advsecurityk9-mz.123-14.T1.bin tftp
or whatever your says when you run the sho ver command.

fill int the info it asks you and your done.

go to an xp box with console access to the broken router and start hyper-terminal in rommon

rommon 1 >confreg
Configuration Summary
enabled are:
break/abort has effect
console baud: 9600
boot: the ROM Monitor

do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: y
enable "diagnostic mode"? y/n [n]:
enable "use net in IP bcast address"? y/n [n]:
enable "load rom after netboot fails"? y/n [n]:
enable "use all zero broadcast"? y/n [n]:
disable "break/abort has effect"? y/n [n]:
enable "ignore system config info"? y/n [n]:
change console baud rate? y/n [n]: y
enter rate: 0 = 9600, 1 = 4800, 2 = 1200, 3 = 2400
4 = 19200, 5 = 38400, 6 = 57600, 7 = 115200 [0]: 7
change the boot characteristics? y/n [n]:

Configuration Summary
enabled are:
break/abort has effect
console baud: 115200
boot: the ROM Monitor

do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]:

You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect.

then reload hyper-terminal with the 115200 speed
and type

rommon 1 > xmodem c1841-advsecurityk9-mz.123-14.T1.bin

then when it tells you to send go to the send menu in hyper-terminal, or tools then send(i don't remember) and navigate to the backed up ios and send it.

should take about 1 -1/2 hours.

sorry if the write up sucks, i am doing it from my iphone.

thank you mahlad29, i am currently sending it, says 3 hours remaining. Will let you know how it goes.

great!

what do i do once the upload has completed?

Just reboot, just know the console speed will be 115200 instead of the default 9600, to change that you boot back into rommon and enter confreg, then change it back to 9600 the same way you changed it to 115200, and reset

i uploaded and restarted, i changed the baud rate back and restarted again, but it is still stuck in the same place as before.

Hmm.
in rommon type confreg 0x2142
and reboot it

Damn/

I am going to say its a flash card issue.
This is pretty cut and dry stuff. Either it works or it doesn't.

Swap the flash card from the working router as test
if it works then you know life is good. You can pull the cf card from the running router without effecting operation.
If it doesn't work, pick up a regular cf card from ebay-San disk is my choice and get a *nix box and dd the working flash card to the new flash.

If that doesn't work, well..... idk Diff hardware issue.

Just for kicks, type boot at rommon...

Also Looking into your cookie issue, idk if thats it, I remember At a customers site they had a 1721 and it explicitly said when booting: Warning corrupt cookie, or cookie corrupt. Something like that.

now i'm pretty sure it's the cookie as this is what i get when trying to tftpdnld from rommon:

Code:
rommon 14 > TFTP_FILE=c1841-advsecurityk9-mz.124-3i.bin
rommon 15 > tftpdnld

usage: tftpdnld [-hr]
Use this command for disaster recovery only to recover an image via TFTP.
Monitor variables are used to set up parameters for the transfer.
(Syntax: "VARIABLE_NAME=value" and use "set" to show current variables.)
"ctrl-c" or "break" stops the transfer before flash erase begins.

The following variables are REQUIRED to be set for tftpdnld:
IP_ADDRESS: The IP address for this unit
IP_SUBNET_MASK: The subnet mask for this unit
DEFAULT_GATEWAY: The default gateway for this unit
TFTP_SERVER: The IP address of the server to fetch from
             TFTP_FILE: The filename to fetch

  The following variables are OPTIONAL:
          TFTP_VERBOSE: Print setting. 0=quiet, 1=progress(default), 2=verbose
TFTP_RETRY_COUNT: Retry count for ARP and TFTP (default=18)
TFTP_TIMEOUT: Overall timeout of operation in seconds (default=7200)
         TFTP_CHECKSUM: Perform checksum test on image, 0=no, 1=yes (default=1)
               FE_PORT: 0= (default), 1
         FE_SPEED_MODE: 0=10/hdx, 1=10/fdx, 2=100/hdx, 3=100/fdx,
                        4=Auto (default)

  Command line options:
   -h: this help screen
-r: do not write flash, load to DRAM only and launch image

Looks like it is xmodem time...

burtsbees:
I've already done it with xmodem, i didn't really want to uplaod anything, just see if it would work. It did not as i thought.

While u are still hooked to your router at 115200 baud rate,Try this:
Router# configure terminal
Router(config)#config-register 0x2102
Router(config)#line console 0
Router(config)#speed 9600
relaunch a terminal session to your router at 9600 baud rate and you should be fine.

^^^ are you kdding? Are you not aware of the month we are in? And you post is so irrelevant, it doesnt accomplish anything at all, except changing the baud rate. This is a complex cookie issue which may require a rommon re-flash. Not a line speed cahange. And the reason why it is at 115200 is when uploading a ios image throug the console 9600 baud will take forever.
