Cisco 1841 IOS Upgrade 2

Hello,
I am trying to upgrade the IOS from 12.4(13) to 12.4(18) on my 1841.

When I issue the following commands -

Router>ena
Router>password
Router#copy tftp flash
TFTP Server - x.x.x.x
Source - c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-18.bin
Destination - c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-18.bin

At this point I was expecting to be prompted to say Yes/No to an erase of the flash, but I wasnt. As there is only 32MB of memory there isnt enough room for both IOS images.

The only other thing I could think of was to put the destination filename as the old filename and over-write it that way. But I didnt think this was a good idea as the filename would be wrong on the IOS and it might have caused problems.
Anyone have any ideas, why im not being prompted?

you should just be able to delete the previous version than start your upgrade. hope that helps

Then try it.

Thanks for that, unfortunatly the squeeze command didnt work but the erase flash did.

The reason behind all this was that I wanted to install a HWIC-1FE card, which I believe is only supported in 12.4(15)T

From Cisco: "Note: For the HWIC-1FE and HWIC-2FE the minimum level is Cisco IOS 12.4(15)T."

The card is still showing up as UNKNOWN when the router starts.

Anyone any ideas?

You likely need Ip Plus rather than IP Base code.

It turned out that I couldnt use the General Deployment and I had to use the Early Development - c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-15.T3.bin
