Hello everyone,

I just downloaded a new IOS for our router due to the TCP Stack vulnerability. I tried to install the new IOS using a TFTP server. I followed the instructions provided in a Cisco document. I chose not to erase the flash. When the new IOS was transferred, I had the router RELOAD. When the router came back on, all of my previous configuratiosn were erased, and I had to configure the router from scratch. Also, the IOS that now loads is still the old version. Here is what is on the flash:

Router#show flash

System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 10997744 c1700-k9o3sy7-mz.123-4.T2.bin
2 3176448 sdm.tar
3 16264 sdm.shtml
4 216064 home.tar
5 1462 home.html
6 11001852 c1700-k9o3sy7-mz.123-4.T4.bin
[25410220 bytes used, 7882068 available, 33292288 total]
32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

At this point I would like to erase the T2 version and use only the T4. I do not want to erase the SDM files, and I do not want to lose the configuration again. How can I accomplish this? I have used the command COPY RUN START and saved that. What is the best way to save my current config?

This is the first time I have worked with Cisco routers, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

~Matt

To save the config, copy it to a tftp server:

"copy run tftp"

The old IOS is loading because it's the first IOS in flash. You can use a "boot system flash:c1700-k9o3sy7-mz.123-4.t4.bin" to force it to boot the new IOS or delete the old version.

delete flash:c1700-k9o3sy7-mz.123-4.T2.bin

Thank you donjohnson, I live in Miami so I guess it's only appropriate you helped me. I just have one last question, how would I load a saved config from the tftp server, just in case the router settings are ever lost again?
