My company just bought a cisco 1750 router for their T1 connection from an auction. It looks like the router has been wiped of its firmware. When I connect to the router via serial port I get this

System Bootstrap, Version 12.0(3)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 1999 by cisco Systems, Inc.
C1700 platform with 16384 Kbytes of main memory

device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "flash:"
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "flash:"

Question is how do I go about loading in the firmware? I did download the Cisco Configmaker and tried to update using that but it failed to even connect. Is there a tutorial to help me with this and also were I can get the IOS software for the router.
Thanks in advanced!

How wierd somehow I lost the configuration I had

Ok i can ping it now again
I think I just need some small configuration changes and I might have this baby up and running.

Ok maybe Im going about this the wrong way. Now my router has a T1/CSUDSU WIC card but our ISP installed a CSUDSU already and ran an ethernet from that wich is whats plugged into the T1 WIC card. Now obviously it works because I can ping the router from the outside. I assigned the router an IP address that the ISP gave us. So I should be able to ping/route the outside world from within the router right?
Now do I just do a normal ping command or how can I verify that traffic is flowing in and out of this router via that T1 connection?

Extended ping...example...

Edge#ping
Protocol [ip]:
Target IP address: 68.94.157.1
Repeat count [5]:
Datagram size [100]:
Timeout in seconds [2]:
Extended commands [n]: y
Source address or interface: fa0/0
% Invalid source. Must use IP address or full interface name without spaces (e.g. Serial0/1)
Source address or interface: 10.68.68.1
Type of service [0]:
Set DF bit in IP header? [no]:
Validate reply data? [no]:
Data pattern [0xABCD]:
Loose, Strict, Record, Timestamp, Verbose[none]:
Sweep range of sizes [n]:
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 68.94.157.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with a source address of 10.68.68.1
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 12/13/16 ms

Answer "y" to "extended commands"

also...here's what you said...

"Now my router has a T1/CSUDSU WIC card but our ISP installed a CSUDSU already and ran an ethernet from that wich is whats plugged into the T1 WIC card."

Ethernet or T1??? Also, what is fa0 connected to? The LAN? What is connected to the outside? Post the complete sh run...

Well here is the confusion I have with this . There is a CSUDSU connected that my isp setup. ON my router i have this card

In the Slot 0 is were this card is installed. NOw when I got the router it was in the slot2 spot. I moved it.
Now a grey ethernet cable runs out of the CSUDSU. If I hook that cable up to a laptop and set the laptop to the IP address and DNS info the ISP sent me the laptop can route to the net.
Is fa0 the ethernet port?
Do i have this setup all wrong or?

THANKS Im actually learning alot :)

I tried this

chromacars#ping

fa0 is the ethernet port---the T1 gets a cable that looks like an ethernet cable, but the pinouts are different. What did the T1 connect to before?
The interface is s0, not sa0. Can you post the complete sh run? I did not see s0 in the last post!

hmm if the pinouts are diff why would it work on a standard ethernet laptop port?

Something is wrong there---the T1 WIC is not meant for ethernet communication period! Ethernet uses pins 1,2,3 and 6, whereas a T1 uses pins 1,2,4 and 5. The T1 cable is also shielded twisted pair, and ethernet is unshielded twisted pair. You still did not post the complete sh run...I cannot help if I can't see what is connected to what, and with what IP address (you can mask the last 2 octets). Also, I still need to know what the T1 WIC is connected to---if the ISP is giving you an ethernet handoff (in which case you don't even need the T! WIC!), if you connect it to a T1 Smart Jack card, or an Adtran device, how many IP addresses the ISP gave you, what is for the LAN and what is for the WAN, etc.

Burt

That was the complete SH run i thought.
ok to answer your questions

"Also, I still need to know what the T1 WIC is connected to"
The TI wic is connected to the grey ethernet cable coming out of the CSUDSU box the isp setup.

"if the ISP is giving you an ethernet handoff"

How would I know if it is a handoff how could I tell?

"how many IP addresses the ISP gave you"

The ISP gave us 3 ips

I was going to assign one of the ips to the router and use the other two for a couple servers once i got the T1 setup with the LAN.
Like I said before the cable coming out of the CSUDSU box i can connect to a laptop and using one of the IPS and the DNS the ISP gave me I can surf the net with. So does this mean I do have an ethernet handoff?
Maybe I have been going about this all wrong.

Thanks again

Ok turns out the ISP has the Adtran 624 misconfigured by the field tech. Now they have it set for ethernet handoff with a crossover cable.

SO I WASTED all that time :-(

So now new questions. Any recommendation on what router I should use for this? From what the ISP told me I now can use any router I want but I want to get one that can handle the speed and connections especially if I am going to run an email server.

THanks again.

well they told me that out of the Adtran there is a crossover cable coming out of it and that we can hook up a "regular" router to it and then to our lan as long as we assign the router an ip address.

As it stands, how many subnets are you need ing to divide your network into? Can users hook to the Adtran and get out as it stands now? How many ports are in the Adtran (is it a switch also, with 24 ports or so?)?
