Greetings,

new here. Found this site and thought that maybe someone here could help me out.

I have 2 Cisco 1720 routers. The first one is a working unit that is for our T-1. Works great. No issues and havent had to mess with it in the 2+ years that I have worked here as the IT guy.

The second one is an identical 1720, same set up hardware wise. Both are identical.

I wanted to set up the second one as a cold spare, so if anything happened to the main one, all I had to do was plug the spare in and turn it on.

I copied the running-config and startup-config files to the network, and then copied them to the spare.

I was hoping that was all I would have to do. Tested it out Saturday morning and its a no go.

My only stumbling block at this job is that I just dont know Cisco routers. Any help?

Thanks in advance

Ok, here is what I did. Please anyone let me know if I did something wrong.

I had previously copied the running-config and startup-config files over to a server.

I just took the spare router, configured it to see the network and then did this command...

copy tftp:/computername/running-config running-config
copy tftp:/computername/startup-config startup-config

This should have copied over the 2 backup files from the network I had saved over to the running-config and startup-config on the router.

Then using the topic I found on here, I did a copy run start to, as plshlpme said "copy run start will make them permanent by saving them to the startup."

Is this correct?

Thanks

Yes. Post a config of the production and spare routers. What do you mean when you say "It didn't work"?
