Hello There,

I have been to Cisco's password recovery site and i do not see the Cisco 1710 router.

I have successfully reset Cisco router passwords using the Cisco recovery instructions before keeping the current configuration.

However, i believe, you cannot keep the current config intact when reseting some Cisco routers.

Does anyone know if the 1710 is a router that i can reset and keep the current config intact?

And is there a way for me to tell if resetting a Cisco password will or will not wipe the current config?

Many Thanks,

Delorca.

Thanks for that......

Do you know if the current running config would be at risk?

According to step 9 of this document, you are to copy the startup-config to the running-config. That seems to tell me that the config remains intact during the procedure, but I cannot say I've personally done this on a 1700. If you're really concerned, I may have a spare that I can try this on, but wouldn't be something I could do today. I think you'll be good to go, though, so long as you stick to the instructions.

yes
copy run start will save the running config to nvram, and copy start run will load the config saved in nvram to the running config, then you do copy runstart after you change the pw's
