The NIU board is known to be sensitive when there's a lot of traffic on the LAN.
Best solution is a crossed cable between server and NIU. If that is not an option, a separate VLAN is the next best thing.
Also make sure that the switch is configured 10MB half duplex for the NIU Ethernet port.

are there any other applications running on that NIU board?

please post results from these commands:

IODDP;

IONCP;

Pro tip: please format the results as monospace (TT icon in editor) so we can better read the printouts

if there are no other applications running on that board, the problem may reside on the server...

As Daddy said, the NIU on TSW is particularly vulnerable to overload when exposed to broadcast traffic on the Ethernet port.
If the NIU is on the corporate LAN with Windows machines there can be a lot of broadcast packets being produced by clients and servers. Additionally network devices can be producing broadcasts; with spanning tree protocol for example.

If your test using PC to PC crossover cable was made exclusive of any other device (i.e. no network switch) and the NIC on the PC was set to /or negotiated 10M/Half Duplex, then it is possible that the server itself is making unnecessary broadcast traffic.

It is probably worth running Wireshark on the server to see if the 344 alarm corresponds to particular network traffic.

In practice it is best to configure the NIU port to be on it's own VLAN. The port should be configured as an access port with no spanning tree (portfast). The logging server can be on a different VLAN as long as routing is configured between the two.
