A Couple more questions from the NorstarNewbie!!

The system is a CICS 4.1 expanded with StarTalk Flash 180 Min.

1.) I have a couple of M7324's with a Message Button (feature 981) on each one... but they do not light up when there is a message waiting, and instead show "message for you" on the display. I have a irratable manager who wants it on a button.

2.) I have put in a LS/DS cartidge stripped out from a neighbours MICS. Loops 1 and 3 work fine, but 2 and 4 give only dial tone, and nothing more...

Any Thoughts?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you have no further options at this point. This is "THE WAY" the Norstar notifies its terminals of messages waiting.

Me too. Anyone know the Feature code to fix this??? LOL
<just kidding... sorry... had to do it> LOL

SO you are not able to dial out on these lines?? What are you UNABLE to do on these lines?

norstarnewbie, on your issue with the message button.

At the M7324 you could turn on 'static time' using F806. Doing this changes what shows up on the display when a message is received in his mailbox. Instead of the usual 'Message for you', the time & date will stay on the display and 'MSG' will appear above the first display button as usual and operate the same way. The only difference is that the user gets to see the time & date all the time and sometimes that all they want!

If you EVER do find the feature code to fix a irratable manager, POST IT!! ;-)

Good luck!

If you have the T-7xxx telephones they have the message waiting light on them along with the displayed "message for you", You must have a release of 4.1 or higher and even the 4.1 release should be newer than march 2001. It took Norstar a while but they finally set up a message light.

Try reseating the effected LS/DS card. Wiggle and jiggle and gently abuse it to make better connections.... also check the 25 Pin ampthenol is properly seated... then check the punch downs... then replace the card.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Line 2 and 4 will now recive calls normally, and you can talk normally on these calls, but you can't dial out!!! I've put it back in a MICS and it works fine !?!

Any Thoughts??

By the Way "Feature F.O." or "Feature F.U." worked great on this manager in particular!!! :)

Could be that the LS/DS cards your using are an older type and are not transferable between systems.

Cool. LS/DS cards for Mod 8X24 and ICS systems differ only in a small notch on the upper back corner. So an issue date incompatability is unlikely. tfccom - are you able to put or exchange another card into that slot to prove the slot/card status? Perhaps as a longer shot, check the CO line characteristics for the two effected trunks as compared to their neighbors. Still sounds like a back plane/ ampthenol cable connection problem. Are you using the same Ampthenol 25 pin connectors between the MICS and CICS? Also check the Line restrictions to ensure local access allowed on the CICS. And lastly what happens when you press the line keys associated with the effected 2 and 4 ports - noise - nothing.. ?
Note: Feature ** FU is often confused for 'set lock'..... :)

Cheers

Just a longshot, as I`m unsure if you can break dial tone on lines 2 and 4, but have you checked to see if those lines are set to pulse dialing, (or waited a good 20 seconds after dialing) if in fact you can break dial tone.

You could also go into maintenance and see if those ports are disabled. (I`m not even sure if you can disable line ports, maybe only a card) Having never disabled a line port I have no clue what you`d get if it was disabled and I doubt you could recieve calls on them if it was but it`s worth a shot.
