{CICS} Temporary Building Interconnect?

I have a client (apartment complex) who is housing one of their employees on-site. The employee's apartment will also function as a home-office. The building is about 300' from the rental office where the phone system (Nortel CICS) is located. Client wishes for the "home-based" employee to be on the same phone system for in/outbound calling, transfer & intercom purposes. This connection will only be required for a few months as they are building a new (larger) office.

I traced the wiring and it seems that all building feeds (Bell) lead out to the street. There are no pairs between buildings. Each building has its' own address.

There is no way to run aerial wire and client does not wish to pay for going underground.

Any ideas? Is anyone aware of a service provided by Bell that would allow an inter-connect through their wiring infrastructure?

You could lease a pair from Bell joined to the two addresses and put an ATA on the KSU end and a set on the other end.

Why would I need an ATA? The leased pair would be a "dead connection", no? Or would it have a dial-tone/talk-battery?

you can't run a digital set over a OPX circuit. you might try an engenius cordless phone, it should cover that distance.

You just need the leased pair and a digital extender. Read the answers in the other place that you posted this question.

You are right about the dry pair. Make sure they guarantee no bridge taps and it may not even need the digital extender. If you want another way, look at the MCK line for a one port IP based extender. You will need a fixed IP at each end.

Why can't you run a digital set over an opx?
I done this in the past. Have actually worked for a mom and pop lec and they actually leased digital keysets off of a meridian option system to small local companies. I don't think it's too expensive as losg as they don't have to run any additional wire. last time I heard it was like 7 bucks a mile this was a couple of years ago though.

tincanphoneman, because the FCC (USA) and DOC (Canada) says you can't. The equipment must be approved for connection to the public network. Maybe where you are its different.

Well...BellSouth wants $146.00/mo. for the leased pair. No problem. However, they want $950.00 to make the connection!!! No wiring required...that's just to make the connection. Client isn't willing to pay that and I agree. EnGenius cordless with ATA?

Hi there is no need for ATA the CICS has an I ATA (intergrated) that will cut down cost it is pair 20 on the same as the lines.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I need three phones, so I'll use the IATA for one and external ATA's for the remaining two...unless someone has a better idea.
