I have a CICS with 2.0 SW. I would like to use a call pilot
but I must upgrade to at least 4.1 or higher. My question is, when I put in a new SW feature cart will I lose all my settings?
Anything from 4.1 to 6.1 will work fine. If you want to go to 7.0 your Call Pilot software version must be 3.0. Cost will vary with the vendor, but I'd expect between $100 - $200.
You will lose some programming if you do not use an upgrade tool.
It is only from 4.0 to anything higher that you do not need a tool.
You will need to find out which software you have exactly. Look under Maintenance and get the sw version. It will be a SP:30XXXXX number. From there we can determine which tool you need.
Coming from NA-MICS 2.0 to anything higher you will need the NA-MICS Upgrade tool.
Coming from CDA-MICS 2.0 to anything higher you will need the CDA- MICS XC Upgrade tool.
Coming from USA- MICS 2.0 to anything higher you will need the USA- MICS XC Upgrade tool.
The upgrade procedure is as follows:
1. Power down.
2. Remove old software cartridge.
3. Install new software cartridge with the Upgrade PCMCIA card tool in it. (not the new software card).
4. Power up. After a few minutes the main phone will show Insert MICS.
5. Power down.
6. Remove the Upgrade PCMCIA card, insert the new software PCMCIA card.
7. Power up.
The CICS systems respond far better to upgrades than MICS systems do- they store thier programming on the backplane rather than on the software card. That being said, I have encountered situations when I've lost partial, and once, all previous programming. If you have a fastrad, and Nortel's backup/restore tool, I would suggest using it before you upgrade. If not, sitting down with pen and paper to copy down your system programming is time well spent.
Anyway, if you have to upgrade, I would reccommend going directly to ver 7.0 .
