If you are not worried about saving the programming then.
Bring it up with the 4 software.
Do a System Startup
When the display says Applying Template.
Unplug the power
Put in the 7.0 power up and give it about 20 minutes or so.
We've had several customers who've tried to do similar upgrades to 7.0 and the system will just flash forever. Doing the STARTUP as Hawks suggested does work. It may be that the CICS needs to be upgraded to 6.1 first and then 7.0 as needs to be done with the MICS. I'll try to test this in the morning.
What I have done is this, if the NVRAM is a Rls 1 then I put in a Rls 2 and put in the original software cartridge and let it boot up. When it came up I put in the 6.1 cartridge and let it come up. When that was finished I used the 7.0 upgrade tool and followed the instructions and did not lose any programming.
Technically, I have gone straight from 5.0 to 7.0 on our test switch without an upgrade tool, but I do not recommend it on a customer's site. I feel the safest way is the way that I described above. If you feel comfortable doing it a different way and it works, more power to ya. I, however, am not comfortable doing it any other way.
Thanks to everyone for their assistance. I was able to upgrade but I had to powerdown as soon as I saw the 'Applying template' message. Special thanks to hawks.
