I have a CICS with a fax connected to the I-ATA port DN 37. only 2 incoming POTS lines for dial tone. only 7 stations with phones on the system 21-27. if a fax comes in on either line the user transfers the call to station 37. between 5;00pm and 7;00am the customer wants the fax to pick up immediately without any other phone ringing or user input. So, how can I program the system for the fax to pick up immediately between 5;00pm and 7;00am? Thanks

Need a little more info

So why do faxes come in on 2 lines?
Do they not have a main line and a fax line?
Which voice mail system are they using on site?

The CICS does not control when a fax answers, the fax machines does.
Normally a fax line maybe added to a CICS because the client cannot afford a separate fax line.
In those cases we would program the IATA to ring but on the sets we program appear only.
The fax machine controls the rings it must answer in, 2 rings is best.

Callpilot voice mail has a built in ATX where it detects the fax and then forwards it to the IATA DN.

If they do not have one you can install an ATX such as a Comshare or STICK which goes between the system and the carrier.

There maybe other options based on your answers to the above question.

curlycord - thanks for reaching out

So why do faxes come in on 2 lines?
***the business only has 2 lines. if a fax call comes in on either line they would like to be able to transfer it to station 37

Do they not have a main line and a fax line?
***no dedicated fax line.

Which voice mail system are they using on site?
***no voicemail

The CICS does not control when a fax answers, the fax machines does.
***during the day the customer wants to answer calls on both lines and transfer fax calls as needed.
***during non business hours, they want the fax, station 37, to be able to answer. lots of their clients fax to this customer at night

Normally a fax line maybe added to a CICS because the client cannot afford a separate fax line.
****similar here

If they do not have one you can install an ATX such as a Comshare or STICK which goes between the system and the carrier.
***Not familiar with a "ATX" Is it like a "fax switch"?

Yes
But since they for some reason advertise 2 numbers to fax you would then need 2 of these devices.

They are far better off advertising one number for faxes.

The best you can do in this case is setup a Night Service in Service Modes and have only the DN of the IATA ring.....default in Night is 221, remove it and replace it.
You can set it on a schedule and/or activate it manually from a control set(221 by default) using F871 to turn it on or off.

I agree about the dedicated line.... but....
what you have described helps I bet.
my only problem now, from DN 37 (the ATA port) I can only dial station. I put an analog phone on it. I cannot dial 7 digit for local numbers or any L.D. numbers. After 2 digits dialed, fast busy.
if I can get it to dial out I will be all set.

You need to dial the Access or Destination code such as 9 sometimes however best way is:
-Lines put into Pool A
-Set/37/Prime Line = Pool A
-Set/37/2 Intercom keys
-Under Capabilities/Hotline make it External and enter only a Pause (Feature 78 to insert pause)

On the Fax just dial as normal, no code.

curlycord,

You have no idea how much I appreciate your input. I work for a local telephone company. We do not do key systems, unless situations like this customer. His existing key system failed one day and he was in a bind, so we did this to help one of our "dial-tone" customers. So, that should explain my lack of knowledge of some features.

If I could ask for some more details....

-Lines put into Pool A ===I assume all lines. Then do the stations automatically find the pool or do I assign the stations to a pool?

-Set/37/Prime Line = Pool A === got it

-Set/37/2 Intercom keys === got it

-Under Capabilities/Hotline make it External and enter only a Pause (Feature 78 to insert pause)=== is this added to the "hotline"? This one has me most confused

"-Lines put into Pool A ===I assume all lines. Then do the stations automatically find the pool or do I assign the stations to a pool?"
Go into into Line programming, show line 001 and you will find Pool:public (Public is default, change it to Pool A) and do same for all active lines.

"-Under Capabilities/Hotline make it External and enter only a Pause (Feature 78 to insert pause)=== is this added to the "hotline"? This one has me most confused"
Yes when you see Hotline (Set/2XX/Capabilities/Hotline press Change and choose External, then press SHOW then press Change then press Feature then 78

I will give this a shot this afternoon. At this time, each station has a button for line 2 and line 2. will adding them to line pool A make any changes to how they are used to pressing a line button and then dialing out?

Also an inline fax stick works great in these situations as any fax call will route to the fax machine only with these sticks

joe2938 - Thanks for replying, but,,,,,I did offer that to the customer. His last setup was with the fax into his key system. That is how he wants it to work now.

Joe that is the same thing:
"If they do not have one you can install an ATX such as a Comshare or STICK which goes between the system and the carrier."

Problem is they are giving out 2 numbers for some reason.
