Has anybody ever made a chrome effect with Photoshop (Eye candy 4000 plugin) that actally looks Half Decent. Personaly, I hate this effect but need to use it for a fussy geezer's website. I suppose being a 3Dsmax user, I need that element of realism.

Any tips for making this ugly chrome effect look cool would be apreciated as I need a faster alternative to 3dsmax.

NO, NO, NO!!!!!

Sorry Polyanna, I did say a GOOD chrome effect didn't I. That one looks more like blue and orange to me than REFLECTIVE METAL.
 :)
(-:

I can't stress enough how important it is for this shiny chunk of polished metal to look real. You've got to remember, Chrome is just like a mirror wraped around a shape, so it needs to reflect the contents and colours of the image to look half decent. I know that surrounding shapes & colour schemes all play a vital part in the realism of the chrome effect, But I'm yet to find a chrome effect that actualy reads the image for colour & shape density. Any ideas where I can get one??

Or is anyone able to make one???? - That would be a TOP plugin. - The important things to remember would be the positioning of colours, and the amount of each colour used in reflecting the contents of the image. ----------------------------------------

You're going to have a hard time finding a filter to do what you want. If you want to stay with Photoshop as opposed to a 3D program (which would be, by far, the easiest method), you'll have to do some handwork ... I couldn't begin to offer a detailed tutorial, but the elements you'll be working with are:

the Transform options beneath the Edit menu,
the Gradient Tool,
the Render Lighting filter,
and Blending Modes.

Essentially, you create your shiny surface with something akin to Pollyanna's tutorial (change the colors -- it's a good tutorial nonetheless). Then copy portions of your surrounding image onto the surface using the transform options and an appropriate blending mode. Render lighting on your duplicate if necessary.

Good luck. You've got a tough one.

Right, That's it. I've been after somethig for months, but It seems like I need to be more acurate than I should do. Here's what I've decided to do, for anyone who might want to copy this effect as it does look cool on the web.

[ul][li]Make a screen capture of the website as it stands.[/li][li]Create said chrome object...[/li][li]Make nice and reflective and bang the screenshot onto a flat plane out of shot, behind the perspective view, but close enough to be reflected in said chrome thingy[/li][li]Render the camera from the position required, and tweek refectiveness untill chrome looks half good and you can see a faint reflection of the actual website in the chrome. This looks un beleivabe, especialy if you flip the sceenshot horizontaly, that way, when you put said object onto you page, all the images on the page are reflected in the chrome. IN THEIR CORRECT PLACE![/li][/ul]Sorry if I needed to be way over the top on the look of this dirty effect, but you'd understand If you knew how much I hate it!!!!
I had to do it..... They made me..... :-( ----------------------------------------
