Found a few threads on this whilst attempting to troubleshoot but they were all from around 6.0/6.1 and didn't have any replies.

I've got a system that's experiencing choppy voicemail. The first 5-6 seconds are crystal and then they fall apart. The longer the voicemail, the worse it gets. It's driving me mental.

IPO is a V2 on 8.0(43) VM is 8.0(1011).

Been through the normal procedures. Reinstalled VM Pro. Moved VM Pro to a different box. Turned the embedded voicemail on just for shits and giggles. In every instance the messages fall apart after a while, but only for calls on the SIP trunks. They've got some ISDN2 as backup trunks and calls to voicemail over those are fine.

So it's something to do with their Gamma trunks. But only when voicemail is involved. They've never reported any voice issues on calls (and i've spent enough time on the phone to them about this to have spotted any issues).

We're putting another SIP trunk from a different provider in, just to see what happens with that. But thoughts welcome.

Tom, what codec do you use?
What VCM card (VCM32 or combo VCM)
Do you leave your VMPro client open on the server?
There are issues in 7.0 where you leave the client open it causes problem when you record a message (the client becomes non responsive)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

It's a V1 VCM 32.

I'll have a look at the config on monday.I always shut the client whenever i use it, but i'll have a word with them and make sure they aren't leaving it open.

Cheers bud.

Hi Tom

I had this issue like this about 18 months ago with Gamma sip trunks. It wasn't every voicemail it was 2/3 voicemails a day. It took about 5 months to get to the bottom of it. I replaced the whole network setup but Gamma kept saying it was the network.

Finally got the result when Gamma had a wireshark running at the exchange, I had a wireshark trace running on a mirrored port where the trunks plug into on the network. The call was already distorted before it hit the network. Because it was only slighted distorted calls a fine but as soon as it hits a data channel you get the cracked voicemail.

Gamma then moved me to a new exchange platform and everything has been fine since.

It's very painful getting anything out of Gamma!!!!!

Hope this helps

Nick

Nick,

I really, really appreciate that. If nothing else it gives me somewhere else to look. Thank you.

Funny you mention it was only on 2-3 messages a day, because in this case it's only a few users out of maybe 60 that have reported it, which means i've been focusing the troubleshooting on those users rather than the voicemail/network/gamma as a whole.

I'll start putting some pressure on Gamma to get them moved.

Thanks again, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hi Tom

I just hope you get it sorted quicker than I did. It went on for ages. The problem I find with Gamma is that you have to prove its not you before they start to investigate.

Let me know how you get on

Nick

Hi Nick,

Your efforts weren't in vain as they've admitted pretty quickly that it is an issue that can be resolved in the way you described.

Just wanted to check what you changed on the IPO to get this working again, just in case i need to upgrade to be able to do it?

Thanks again.

yes, We had the same thing took around 3 months, lots of site visits, kit swap-outs - Gamma has an issue with their old exchange platform and choppy vm messages
