I know this is a basic question, I am a basic user of Corel Draw 8, but all I want to do is add some text to a CD tray card I am creating and print the text in bright red. There is no bright red color on the palette like there is in every other graphic program I use. Seems like there is every other color. Please don't tell me I have to blend colors until I get what I want.

Might depend which pallet you are using. If you want to produce for print, then try the pantone process or finished stock pallets, if you are producing for web, try RGB.

If the job is for print in general (process) try CMYK. CMYK will sometimes look muddy on screren because the program tries to calibrate the screen to output like the printer. If you have chosen the right color mix (proportions of Cyan Yellow Magenta and Keyline black) as according to Printers Pal, or the ink makers guide, then don't worry about the screen color, it'll print right.

If you just want it to look good on scrren, do not use CMYK. - "Oops! I've joined a club that'll have me as a member?" -

I have a colour problem too, cannot find a way to specify the pantone colour I want in Corel 8. Am I missing something really obvious? (like a braincell?) Getting a thing about blues and purples

To repeat what was said above, use RGB for screen, web, PowerPoint, etc. Use CMYK when going to print. Use Pantone if your print budget can afford such a printer.

If you can't find your color palettes, here are the "true" red values:

RGB - 255/0/0
CMYK - 0/100/100/0

To fill with Pantone, click on the object you wish to apply the color to. Click on the FILL tool and select the FIXED PALETTES tab, and all the Pantone colors are provided.
