Hi All,
We have an application that we recently upgraded from VFP 8 to VFP 9. The transition was smooth except that the help file of the application is not working in VFP 9. I have made sure that FOXHHELP9.exe and FOXHHELPPS9.dll are included in the installer.

After doing some research on the web, I read a comment on which only says:
foxhhelp9.exe /regserver

When we type this command at the cmd prompt, it fixes the problem. However, this is not the solution our users want to see.

Can you please let me know the reason for having to type this command, and is there a way I can avoid going this route?
Thanx,
Bini

Regserver adds the necessary entries into the registry of the user's computer that are required to reference runtime dlls.
I don't know of way to get around it.

If you don't create a setup for the 'updated' help system, you may be able to send off a .BAT file for them to run or a small .exe or .app which executes that command.

Thanx for the info Dave.
Cant installshield handle the proper installation of help files? I mean, is it necessary to either manually or thru code do the regserver process? Can this not be avoided so that installshield does it as it used to in VFP8?
Thanx again,
Bini

Bini,

Can't you put the foxhhelp9.exe /regserver in a Windows shortcut, and distribute this with your application. It's just another file, after all. The user can then double-click on the shortcut to register the help.

If you don't want to give the user the trouble of double-clicking, put the command in a batch file and have it executed when you launch your program.

Or, run the command directly from your VFP application, using RUN.

Mike

I guess that's what I was referring to when I stated

You will have to tell you InstallShield project to deal with the help files, that won't just happen by itself. They are already in there as being made for VFP 8 and neither InstallShield nor the OS will change that unless you tell it too somehow.
