Checking the Status of an Appl. running in the Server from the Client

Hi Friends,

Please help me to find a solution :-

- to check weather a server resident program is executing / not, from the local machine.

i have solved this problem by writing the timestamp to a database table each time the server app starts up (every 60 seconds). on the client side, i have a program that checks the timestamp and brings up a warning if it has not been updated for more than 2 minutes.
