Check whether files exist?

Is there a way to check whether a file exists without using the fileSystemObject? I am having problems with the FSO reading my mapped network drive (read my last posts) and was wondering if anyone knew of another way to check if a file exists in a virtual directory - I keep getting "page can't be displayed" when people try go to the page before the service I have set up copies the page onto the network drive.

Any suggestions?
