Fresh install of Exchange2003 on Windows 2003.

I can ping the server from any workstation, also no problems that I could see in DNS.

When setting up a profile in Outlook XP for connection to an exchange server, it fails. In the steps for creating a profile in Outlook, I enter the Name of the Server and MAILBOX name, but when I click on Check Name, it's doesn't see the server. However, I can login fine with OWA and read all my test messeges I sent to it from the internet.

Any suggestions? thanks!

the messege i get when I click on check name is

"The action could not be completed. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list"

Are you sure you aren't having DNS issues?? This smells very much like a DNS issue. Just because you can ping the server doesn't mean that your DNS is playing properly with ADS. You must be running DNS (active directory integrated) on a DC... You must be pulling DNS on the workstation from that server and that server ONLY. You can not use external DNS server for internet. If you need external resolution, you must use forwarders.

I hope this is making sense, if not let me know and I can clarify, I have to go home for the day.

It was DNS related, but at the time I couldn't find out why untill I noticed the server name was not the same.

It appears that my exchange server crashed and my brother reinstalled windows 2003 and exchange 2003 with a different server name (we have an exchange server at home we host :). In system manager I had to make a few changes to 'Recipient Update Services' because the values for the name were pointing to the old server name. I had to modify ‘Domain Controller’ and ‘Exchange Server’ for my domain, which was actually pointing to the old server name. Strange!!! but once I made these changes everything returned to perfect working order.

Thanks and happy holidays!
