Check if file exists

Is it possible in a workflow to check if a certain file exists or not?

There is an event wait, but that wits with continuing until it finds the file. I want to check if a file exists in a directory. If it doesn't, it needs to follow a certain path. if it does, it needs to follow another path within the workflow.

Is something like this possible?

1.Create a dummy mapping that reads the file, make sure you add a filter that precludes writing data to target.
2.The associated session will either fail (file not found) or succeed (file found, no data written)
3. Use decision control etc to branch out within the workflow.
