I would like to be able to open a VFP program on a local PC and check for an updated version on the server. Once found I would like to overwrite the program on the local PC without getting a "File in use" error. I cannot run directly from the server as the local PCs are often not reattached to the server for days at a time. Is ther a utility that I can use or does someone have a simple solution.?

Since the pcs are not connected for days at a time why not write another program to run first when they do connect and avoid trying to overrite the file you running?

I've attempted to do that using the "Run" command to do the copy but the black screen that comes up when I shell out to DOS confuses the users.

Have you looked Ramani's posting faq184-4492 within the FAQ's.

That routine, after a few small modifications, has worked well for me for years.

Good Luck,
