Hello all,

I'm looking to build a 10TB system as cheaply as possible. Ideas?

Software: FreeNAS ( )
Hardware: your choice on CPU and Mainboard/RAM...
SATA controller: don't skimp on this one, if your DATA is valuable... e.g. 3ware 12port controller...
case and PSU: case should have enough room for the drives, and it would be good if it has redundant PSU (so if one gives the other cuts in), if not then go with a GOOD name brand on the PSU, e.g. Enermax etc. with at least 600w ...

That's what I was thinking controller wise. Can't go wrong with 3ware. I like the FreeNAS idea as well. So far it seems like the best way to go, Thanks Ben.

just try to check different sellers some time they offer very good price. today i just saw seagate 1TB hard disk just $117.00 include tax and free ship. i think not bad, otherwise its expensive.

i usually but different hardwware when its on sale or MIR, also before buying i always google for reviews, if its negative i never buy.

...and don't forget the backplanes. You'll need (2) 5-drive cages to make it easy to swap drives if needed. Here's one idea:

...but there's lots & lots of them. Look for one with good cooling and a fan alarm.
