Hi, I'm fairly new to Project. For our project database, I need to be able to track Start Dates AND the time of the day, and the same for the end date/times. These are very quick projects (actually they're network changes). An example would be:

Change#1234 Start: 10/10/03 7:00pm Finish: 10/11/03 2:00am
Change#1235 Start: 10/11/03 1:00pm Finish: 10/12/03 1:00am

And on the Gantt Chart it would look like this:

10/9 | 10/10 | 10/11 | 10/12
Change#1234 =======
Change#1235 ==========

I need to be able to build a Gantt chart where the bar is plotted across that time frame, 7pm to 2am the following morning, 1pm to 1am, and so on. I thought the fields "Actual Start" and "Actual Finish" would allow this, since my Project Inside and Out book shows that these fields are date & time fields, but they still only seem to allow for a date to be entered.

Can anyone help? I'd really appreciate it.

You make it sound difficult. It's as simple as 1-2-3.

P2002

1. Project | Project Info ... | Calendar: set it to the 24 hour calendar.

2. Tools | Options

View Tab: set Date format to the one you want.
Calendar Tab: set hours per day, hours per week, days per month as appropriate to your circumstances.

3. RightMouseButton on the Gantt chart timescale and click on Timescale ... Click on the Bottom Tier tab and set the Units to hours.

Thanks for the tip! That took care of the problem...I had neglected to make the right changes in the Project Info section.

Also want to point out that "Actual Start" & "Actual Finish" are used to show when the work has actually happened. If you post actual hours or mark a task as partially or 100% complete, the Actual Start & Actual Finish fields are updated.

Also - you can change the way Date & Time are displayed by going to Tools, Options & the View tab. Use the drop down list for Date Format to select the level of detail you'd like to display. If you select one such as 1/31/00 12:33 PM, you'll be able to set your schedule down to the minute.
