I have a chart which has week commencing on the x axis. When I show this as a bar chart the width of the bar is too thin.

I have found this is due to the base unit being set to days, rather than weeks, (therefore the graph makes space for 7 days between each bar)however there is no option to change this to weeks. It is only possible to select Days, months or years.

Is there a solution to this?

Show an example of data, and what charting options you used to make the chart.

I see what you mean. I haven't done a chart like that in many years, and I'm sure that axes didn't behave like that in old versions. Anyway, to convert the axis from assuming dates and screwing up your spacing, convert the dates to text ( or have a new column for x-axis categories with text verions of your dates ), and you should see an improvement.

The simplest solutions are sometimes the best.

Thanks. Worked a treat !!!

My pleasure! :-D

Look at the Chart Options - Axes

There are THREE option button choices for the x-axis...

Automatic
Category
Time-Scale

Time-Scale will result in narrow widths, proportionally spread across the time range.

Category will enable you to make the width as wide as the x incriment, but it will NOT be in proportion to the time range.

I often strike a compromise, by setting up my Source Data table to include every time incriment I want to display in the chart (Week, Month, Quarter etc), but set the x-axis to Category. In that way I get proportionality on the time scale AND I can make the width of bars the width of each incriment.

Thanks Skip. It's been a long time since I played with axes.
