chapter numbers in word

Working on a Word document (2003), and trying to get the chapter numbers to come up correctly. Evidently, the first page is in chapter 2, because when I select, "Include Chapter number", it puts a 2-1 on the first page. Help?

Hi,
Have you tried this? On the Header/Footer toolbar where you first applied the Chapter numbers, there's a section at the bottom of the window to "Start at". Select "1".

got that, I thought it just applied to page numbers though.

Make a SECTION for each Chapter. There is functionality to number SECTIONS.
