I am attempting to connect a Cisco 800 to and AS5300. I am using CHAP. I have the username statement for each device on the corresponding device. When I'm debugging on the AS5300, i get the authentication error "Authntication failure: unable to validate response." I have the ppp chap password xxx entered into the 800, but I can't figure out why my authentication is failing. Can you help?

did you put in the ppp auth chap command ? it needs to go on the interface you are using to send ppp.

steveave,

silly question, but do the passwords on both routers match exactly? example :

routerA
> username routerB password xyz

routerB
> username routerA password xyz
