Hi

Earlier I posted a thread with a question about changing settings for UPS and BCM. After testing I have some suggestions wich you might can use to change settings.

We use a APC 3000VA UPS on a BCM400. This means that in case of a power failure the BCM can run at least for about 3 hours using the battery.

Default if a UPS linefail occurs the BCM will start to go shutdown no matter the capacity of the UPS.

To change the settings there are a few things you have to do:

1.
Make a connection to the share DriveF$\Program Files\PwrChute

You will find a .ini file there
Open this file and find the line [LineFail]
Default you will find there "Actions=LSC"
L means Logging
S means Shutdown
C means Run CommandScript

if you don't want the BCM is going to start shutdown because the UPS has enough capacity for staying online for at least a few hours or so, then you have to remove the S and C from actions.

Scroll down and find [LowBattery]
Make your action = LSC here.
Make sure the commandline script "CommandFile=[“F:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\Voice Platform\UPSpShutdown.exe”]" is configured here and the commandline delay as well.

Just decide by yourself if you want to go shutdown in wich event. Because if scroll down more you will find [CommunicationLost] and [CommunicationLostOnBattery] wich default will shutdown your BCM as well. I decided to Log only and make an smnp trap towards the administrator.

If you want to know all the parameters of the .ini file, visit APC.com/support Product Support Knowledge Base and search for AnswerID 3135

After changing the .ini file save it.

2.
Now, make a serial connection to the UPS or in case of IP telnet to your UPS. You have to configure some things here as well.

In the configuration go to the shutdown parameters and change the ShutdownDelay. Default this timer is 120sec wich is not enough for the BCM to completely shutdown. I changed this timer to 480sec.
The ShutdownDelay is the delay between shutdown command and load off.
Also, change the "low Battery Duration" parameter to your needs. This depends on how much load you have at your UPS.
I have set this parameter to 20 minutes.
The Low Battery Duration is the remaining runtime to signal low battery. This will trigger Powershute [LowBattery] in it's .ini file wich you changed.

To make shure PowerShute will use your settings Powershute needs to be restarted to read in the .ini file and use the new settings.

Hopefully this information will be useful.
