Hello,

I wanted to change two sets. More precisely: I took a M3903 and move it where a M3904 was and vice versa. Then I used OTM for our Option 11 PBX and I did this:
- delete M3904 set
- delete M3903 set
- added a M3904 on the TN that had M3903 before (seems to be OK after)
- added M3903 on the TN that had 3904 before (here the problem appear)

I get nothing out of the wire where the M3904 was.
I tested the set 3903 that I want to use there and it works fine. So it does not seem to be the set.
In OTM everything looks fine.
When I dial that extension, it works fine.

Yet, with the set plugged in that connector, I get nothing on the set display.

Looks kind of strange to me.

Do you have some ideas about what can it be?

Thank you.

STAT X X X X (and see how the port looks).

With the set plugged in, try a IDU X X X X

Check your wiring, the 3903 sets needs correct polarity
of the A and B wires,
while the 3904 sets doesn't.
Thus the 3904 set will work if the wires are crossed,
but the 3903 set will not.

turn off otm and use command line

Hello all,

Thank you for your replies.
I did not solve the problem yet.
I tried to check the wires, because I have a feeling that this can be the isue. Thank you geirendre for your good observation about the polarity. I did not know that. The polarity will expalain why the 3904 was working fine and the 3903 not, in the same connector.

Another test I done: I pluged a 3902 directley in the port of the switch and I could see the right extension on the display. This made me think that it might not be the port at fault.

I also rebooted the computer where OTM is installed. Thank you John for your suggestion. I did use the terminal option in OTM to go to comand line. I did several .idu in ld 32. I am not sure what is the explanation, but I got some mixed results:
- When I left the wires the way they were, I got an error ending in 503, if I rememeber correctly, when I did an .idu on the TN with the problem.
- Then I changed the patch cable that connects the switch port with the end of the cable that goes to that connector. In this case, when I did an .idu, there was no error message, but the set connected to that TN was identified as 3902, despite the fact that I added it as a 3903. Again, it made me think about wires.

So, because I got tired, I do not have appropriate tools for wires, I spent a lot of time with no results, and not the least it was Friday afternoon, I called a telecom technician. I hope that he will be able, on Monday, to put the wires in the right way.

I will come back with the final.

Thank you all for your help.

IDU will show whats physicaly conneted to the switch,
not what you programed. So if you plug in a 3902-set, it will
show up as an 3902 in IDU.
Looks like you got reversed wires, yes. :)

Hello everyone,

The connector is working again. Not thanks to me but rather thanks to the technician that fix it this morning. I made all kind of wrong identifications. I guess it does help to have a toner and a good punch down tool.

In the end, all I can say is that it was something with the wires. Possible at the end connector. After the technician put back the wires in the connector, following the color code marked on it (I guess is standard 568), there was nothing coming in. After that, the good toner guided us through an unnecessary complicated maize of wires, and finaly to connector marked V3 red and not V3 black as I was assuming. Wrong floor. Someday I will know more about the wiring in this building. After all maybe it is not that dificult: the wires arrive first at the 3rd floor in what is called an electrical room. From there they go to another room also at third floor. then they go to the fourth and last floor where the Option 11 is.
From there they go down to the workstations in 3rd and forth floors. I should mention that the 4th floor is the last and it was added after the building was build with 3 floors. I am dizzy.

I hope I will convince my manager to buy a toner an some punch down tools.

So, I am about 98% sure that it was the polarity.

Thank you all for your help.

It's always easier to change the crossconnects in the phone room where the Option 11C is because if the phones worked before, then they should work after you make the change.

You can find toners and punchdown tools cheap on ebay. Or if you want a free catalog of goodies, I get them from Specialized Products Company.
