Hi, A friend has given me their laptop to fix a problem but the language is set to Turkish. It's running Vista Home Premium and I don't have another Vista machine to figure out what to do.

Could someone please talk me through it using steps like 'the world icon with a blue square, the 2nd tab along, the middle button' etc? I've got to the control panel so you can miss that step out ;)

Kind Regards,
Matt

I don't have Vista now in front of me but

Windos + R and then "control panel" should do the trick.

Cheers,
Dian

Thanks for the reply but herein lays the problem... you say "control panel" but all I can see is a load of Turkish words. I have actually already found the control panel and then 'regional settings' by trial and error but then it gets a bit harder!

Cheers anyway.

This is from Windows 7 but I expect Vista is the same?

To change your display language

When you change the display language, the text in menus and dialog boxes for some programs might not be in the language that you want. This happens because the program might not support Unicode. For more information about changing the text in menus and dialog boxes for programs that do not support Unicode, see Change the system locale.

If you want to set the display language for multiple users or for the Welcome screen, see Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts.

Click to open Regional and Language Options.

Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.

Under Display language, choose a language from the list, and then click OK.

Note
If you don't see the list of display languages, you need to install additional language files.

Thanks Linney - I've decided to get the owner to change the language. Too much hassle for a freebie fix!
