Hi, we have the same problem twice a year, local time changes and the IP500 is set to a Windows DC that is supposed to give it the time and it doesn't change the time.

I have just read in the Help how to program a phone button to let me set the time from a phone, but it is only supported on certain model phones. Are there other ways that it can be done that aren't phone model dependent and don't require funny stuff like external terminals.

Thanks

A windows DC isn't supposed to

and it doesn't change the time.

Correct

Windows uses the NTP time protocol. IP Office uses the (older) TIME protocol. They are different and not interoperable. Reading the manual would have told you this, although not explicitly

If you have a PC based voicemail (Lite and Pro have a built in TIME server), leaving the time server address blank will force the IPO to look at the programmed voicemail IP address for the time every hour or so.

Manager also has a time server built in, so you could leave manager running on a specified pc (Time server can be turned off in preferences, but is on by default) Finally, if you have manager and voicemail running on the same PC, othe one that starts first becomes the time server - so watch out you can effectively turn off the time server, for example by restarting the voicemail service.

In answer to your button question you need to set a "self Administer" button with an action data of 2. The phone also needs to be marked as a system phone in the telephony tab. Press the button (if you have a login code you will be prompted for that) and follow the prompts

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I HATE the ip office and the time server crap, to me its a dumb set up. Why not use the protocol that almost everything else uses? Or may be its windows that i hate.....

I have done a change request to Avaya.
If many more business partners do the same thing then Avaya is going to change it perhaps!!!
Just because a small thing like the time changing is does not mean the ipo is crap!

Give the users a admin button or in 4.1 using the *9000* shortcode.
Do not forget to set the phone to system phone!!!

Google for a free RFC7686 timeserver application and install it on the domain controller, then you will never have to look at it again.
