Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could help me with the following: I now wish to change the primary domain name of my Windwos Server 2003 (acts as the DHCP); therefore, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how we do this. The server issues IP's for two other PC's; therefore, would also need to update these as well.

Found this; therefore, I presume I will simply need to update the Iv4 of the applicable machines:

Change a computer name and join a domain or a workgroup
To change a computer name and to join a domain or a workgroup, follow these steps:
1. Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change.
2. Type the new computer name in the Computer name dialog box.
3. Type the new domain or a workgroup in either the Domain dialog box or the Workgroup dialog box.
4. Click More to change the primary Domain Name System (DNS) suffix.
5. Click OK three times, and then restart the computer.

Any help much appreciated :)

does this server run Active Directory? if it does then it takes a lot more to rename the domain because you have to change a lot of directory information. Its not just click this and that like those instruction say.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the information...

I have downloaded the tool; however, it would appear that I'm unable to run the .exe?

The only listing for the additional machines on the network are the predefined DNS setting I have created for the fixed IP address; therefore, do I need to edit the Active Directory also? There is only one user on the network which is myself.

Thanks

to rename the domain in active directory it is not a simple task. there are white papers out there on it on microsoft. Because active directory is tied into it you must change active directory to change the domain name.
