Changing the NIC to use 100Mbs instead of autonegotiate.

I am trying to find a syntax for the autoexec.ncf file that allows me to hard code the nic setting to 100Mbs, or 10Mbs. Anyone ever done this? Seen the place to change it. I obviously checked the help on the .ncf files, to no avail.

If you are using INETCFG to configure your settings, the info you require will be in SYS:ETC\NETINFO.CFG

Otherwise, below might help (from one of our Compaq servers):

LOAD CPQNF3 NAME=CPQNF3_1_E82 FRAME=Ethernet_802.2 SLOT=7 PAIR=0 100HD

for 100Mb Half-duplex -----------------------------------------------------

I dont know the exact ncf code but you can change it in inetcfg.

Depends on the NIC. If you're using a newer Compaq NIC (I have a bunch of 3134s), there is a SPEED=10/100 switch on the driver load line in the autoexec.ncf.

Some 3Com cards have to be configured from the DOS configuration program and can't be set in the autoexec.ncf.

If you're using a different card, the switches should be in your documentation somewhere.

Actually I won't know the server/nic brand until I arrive onsite tomorrow. I was just looking for some insights into a way to hard code the nic @ 100 mbs.

The best way is via INETCFG. In the BOARDS section, you should be able to specify the speed/duplex settings. -----------------------------------------------------
