Changing spot color to a different color

Hello all,

We get PDF ads from time to time that are spot color ads (black + magenta). We always run these on a process color page and we think it's kind of dull to have the color magenta, week after week after week.

Is there a way to change the magenta parts of the ad to another color such as blue, green, red or yellow using Acrobat?

We can open the PDF in Photoshop and change the color there, but it rasterizes the whole ad and the text is not as sharp.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can Save As eps and open in Illustrator to make your changes.

Depnding on the ad's complexity (things like shadows and glows), this will work just peachy or it will degrade it.

If you want to change in Photoshop, create a new blank document at the same print size as the ad - but at 1200 to 2400 dpi (to maintain text crispness) and use the Place command to insert the pdf. The eps/illustrator thing works generally works better.

Also there is a program which works really well called PitStop Professional it is a little pricey however but it has been envaluable to me here working with customers pdf's and fixing them.

Thanks for the great advice! I finally got a chance to try that and it worked great! I never noticed you could save an EPS out of Acrobat.

It works just as well opening the PDF in Illustrator and then saving as an EPS from Illustrator.

I really appreciate the advice!

Tony, I'd love to get PitStop, but it's way out of our price range right now.
