Hi guys,

This is really confusing. Several users here want their NT logon passwords changed for confidential reasons. User A always logs onto the domain from her workstation. So for user A, all I did was go to User Manager on the SERVER, find her name, and change her password. This worked the next time she logged in. Now, this is the problem. User B always logs on locally, meaning not into the Domain but into the Machine itself. How do I change the password for this? I tried alt+ctrl+del and changing the password, but the next time I logged in, it was asking me for a password to connect to the server, which normally never happens. How do I change a local person's password whereby they dont always have to type a password to connect to the sever, ms outlook, etc whenever they log in. That is how it is set up now. Please help

Don79,

The easiest thing to do is from a command prompt type in usrmgr \\computername. You can do this from your workstation as long as you have administrator right on his machine. This will open user manager using the local sam database on that machine.

Hi,

I believe I tried this but I am not sure. I went onto the server and changed my password to say "A". I then hit alt+ctrl+del on my machine and also changed the password to "A".Same username is used. However, it still asked me for a password to connect to the server when I logged in locally. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to log on as "admin" locally on my machine, then go to user manager and change pwd instead of alt+ctrl+del?? I also have local admin rights. Can someone please outline the steps required to accomplish my goal? Thanks ;)

Are your workstations running NT workstation or are you using Win9x workstations? If you're using Win9x you may need to setup user profiles.

I hope I understand you correctly Don. You have a user who logs on to a workstation locally (using the local SAM database) as opposed to logging on to the domain. However, this user needs to access domain resources, correct? If this is indeed the case and this user must log on locally then he must be authenticated by a DC in order to access domain resources and thus will have to provide a login and password for this access as well as the local login.

Yes, as a matter of fact. I gave the person access to the domain yesterday. Everything is fine now. Thanks for the help.
