I am unable to edit the type of string my optional field has been originally set up as. Eg changing from a text field to a number field.

How is this done?

Thanks so much for any help!

BTW i am the end user...

I tried to delete it but the error message pops up, "Cannot delete as it is being used by inventory control"

I tried to delete in Inventory Control after the message appeared when i tried to delete in common services..Both do no work for me... the error message is : same as before :Cannot delete as it is being used by inventory control"

Error after trying to delete from IC

Description: Incorrect procedure. You cannot delete optional field ITEMUNITQTY because it is in use in Inventory Control.

OK, then you'll have to edit CSOPTFH, CSOPTFD, ICOFD, and whatever optional table it's being used in, and change the TYPE from 1 to 6.

Thanks so much for the data base tables that need editing - although when I tried to run a "Microsoft Query Wizard" from Excel 2007, I did manage to find the tables but when I reached the last step of the wizard i received the following error "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'VALUES' Statement(s) could not be prepared." I didn't even set any filter or sort values...

Microsoft Query Wizard for Excel is not the tool for thiss. Use MS Access and an ODBC link, or the Pervasive Control Center for Pervasive, or the SQL Studio for MSSQL.

Thanks so much for all your help ! Much appreciated, I hope I am not being too much of a pain... but... I was unable to detect the name of the optional field I had origionally created. I followed your clear instructions by locating the sub folder "TYPE" for CSOPTFH, CSOPTFD, ICOFD,tables but could not see the titles for the new optional fields i need to edit. I used SQL Studio for MSSQL. OR where in the "Type" folder do i change the 1 to a 6 bearing in mind i need the field to accept both numeric and alphabet strings. thanks again, sorry for the confusion..

Thanks so much for all your efforts, but I worked out that I was missing (') in front of my string and that was the reason it was not importing into the data base!

Have a great week end - Sorry for any inconvienence I may have caused you.
