Hi Folks,
Well I've been an old die hard NT 4.0 fan and we are just moving into the Windows 2000 realm. Actually we've been here a while I've just not had to do any "Maintenance". So we are finally getting DSL for our network and we have to change IP's from our ISP. Once the new gateway is up how do I tell all the clients what the new gateway is? We are using DHCP and I cannot locate where I would change the address. Or do I just configure the new gateway to have the same IP address as the old gateway and just assign the external IP to whatever the ISP gives me. It will be static.
Last but not least....I need books to learn Windows 2000 Server. Anybody have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Use DHCP standard options to assign new DG. So, at the end of the working day you should do the following steps:
1.delete all current leases from all the relevant scopes.
2.stop DHCP service on a DHCP server.
3.change DG parameter to new one that you'v got from your ISP.
4.start DHCP service.
5.use some client to check that it got a new DG.

The best source to learn the basics of W2k - MS Press MCSE Preparation Set of Books. for more advanced materials look MS Press W2k Server Resource Kit.

As for the gateway... yes, changing the external IP on the gateway would be the easiest (and only) route to go.

As for books, I'd reccommend Mastering Windows 2000 Server. It's quite a read, but covers a lot. Quite a few pages are dedicated to integrating/migrating WinNT -> Win2K too. Explains hard subjects quite well. Here's a link to Amazon:

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply guys...!
So it sounds as though I can keep the same internal gateway address that all the workstations see and then just configure the new gateway with the external address that my ISP assigns me. Is this correct?

That should do it... assuming all that's changing is your external IP.

Thanks Matt,
I will definitely look into all these books mentioned. It is greatly appreciated.
