Changing local carriers

I have been asked by a company to provide assistance making a change from one local carrier to another. I am familiar with Meridian phone systems, but I have absolutely no experience with NEC systems. Is there anything that needs to be changed on the PBX to necessitate the change in local carriers?

I suppose the first question is which country? and how is the changeover normally carried out? is it a physical connection or override codes?

Sorry, it is in the US and the carrier change will be a physical connection change.

There shouldn't be any programming requirement then unless there are preferred numbers to be used. For example here in OZ one carrier uses a different international code for faxes. Why I don't know but in changeovers involving that carrier we are asked to do digit substitution to get them to go out over their preferred number.

Are these changes with Copper trunks, T-1 or PRI?

With Copper Trunks it should be pretty simple.

If it's a vanilla T-1 then be sure you know how many digits are being sent

PRI? I would check with current provider, know ISDN Protocol and find out what protocal the new carrier is using. Could be some PBX programming involved.

Also is the customer using any DNIS?
