Changing Line Current on Analog Set??

I am currently trying to integrate an Opt11C with a "Brick" Mail system. I am using analog ports. The brickmail is suppose to answer the calls, play the AA, read whatever key is pressed and then transfer to the appropriate extension. I have monitored the incoming port with my butt set and have found that the Brick is preforming the flash hook and then dialing the 4 digits, but the tones the brick is sending do not break dial tone. If I use my butt set or a plain old analog set it works fine.
The tech support guy at Brick mail says I may need to increase the line current on my analog ports out of the switch. Is this possible? If so how do I go about it?

Thanks in Advance

the only way to increase the line current is with a opx card the nortel id code is NT8D09AL
.. but the brick "tech" is wronge

Ok - new scoop - the tech says that our dial tone is too "strong" for the brickmail to break and suggests we bring it down a bit. The only way I know to do this is with a device between the switch and the brickmail, but I would think this would also bring down the volume for the voice. Does that sound right?
I am sorry for all the ridiculousness of this, but I am definetly getting the feeling I have been sold a bill of goods on this one and am about to lose a customer.

Thanks for all your help.

I don't think it is you, I think it is the Brick. Do you have a digit grabber or do you know someone who does that would lend one to you? You could insert that in between the brick and your switch to see if your brick is sending DTMF and at what level. Maybe it is a defective brick and is not sending it correctly or....a slight, but only very slight possibility is they are sending MF instead. If that is the case, then it is likely to be an option in the brick. Not too many devices use MF anymore though.

I have connected a lot of devices to Nortel's switches over the years and only had one case of dial tone distortion, which was the card itself, but you could hear the distortion on the butt set.

Sounds like the brick folks need to supply you some better support. If you have the digit grabber, you could tell right away if they are sending true DTMF.

I have butted in on the port and the brick is sending the digits, it just never breaks dial tone. It is absolutely beyond me. I agree in thinking it is not a problem with my DT, but it looks like I am going to have to get ahold of some attenuators and prove it.

I was thinking I might take a full reel of cable and connect one end to my analog port and the other end to the brick and see if that resistance doesn't make a difference.

Any thoughts?

either that or a couple of 100 ohn resistors, radio shack .89 one for each side of the line, just put then in series with the jumper.. will it break dt on an analog line? can you break dt with a but set.. the switch is set by fed regs for 600 ohm term... does this brick speak english? 30+ years and i have never had a tech suggest that default dt was to hot... it's not, i have interfaces nortel with centigram, rolm phonemail anlong with some 10 dollar after market stuff... it all works the same, the nortel is the kid sister of the dms 100, the most common switch for city wide dial tone in the world... 48 volts 20 mill...the same as common battery (crank) phones i started on...

I know its ridiculous and it is making me insane, but I will go buy the resistors and show them that it is not my dt's fault!
And yes I can break dt with my buttset, complete the transfer and all that good stuff.
God, to be able to go back in time and make this all disappear!!!!!

Thanks again for all the help!

a very old and wise man told me once you usually get just about what you pay for... with pilot comming down in price it getting to be a better option then a lot of the after market boxes, i think i would find out if the vendor has this "brick" installed on a working nortel switch,

Unfortunately they told me without a doubt that they did. They even put me in tough with a "tech" who said he had one working and would call me back as soon as he found his configuration notes, that was over a week ago and he has not called back.
I put the resistors in line and the thing still won't break dial tone.
Now I need to figure out how to tell the customer (less than a week before cut date) that this won't work, they are SOL and please don't sue me.
I quoted them a new CallPilot mini, with the upgrade to succession at an excellent price, even quoted a MerMail, how I wish they had gone that route!

Thanks again for everything, you have been extremely helpful!
