Usually when you print from InDesign, Illustrator or similar programs, the name of the printfile is identical to the file name.
Does anyone know a trick or piece of software to change the name of the printfile before printing from any of theese programs ? File name must stay intact.

You could write a PostScript file, name it whatever, then download it to your printer.

I understand wanting to change the name of the file, but if you are printing to postscript files to send to a RIP, usually the rip will see the original file name and rip it to that name. We work on our customer files until all changes have been made then do a "Save As" to our file naming protocol i.e. "12345 ABC document" the 12345 = our invoice number, ABC = 3 character code for each customer, and document = either bc for business cards, lh for letterhead, bro for brochure etc. This way we can track the production flow through the shop by mearly searching for an Invoice number. The original files are stored on the server until called upon again andf the latest version is filed under it's appropriate invoice number for archiving.
