I have a main office that has a domain called mydomain1 using W2K and recently added W2K3 and a new domain mydomain2 and created a trust between the 2 for transfering files etc.

All the pcs (2000pro) have been moved successfully from mydomain1 to mydomain2 without a problem.

However a remote site (joined via routers and leased line) also exists and pcs (2000 pro again) were members of mydomain1. Now I cannot manage to change the domain of these pcs to the mydomain2 server. They say they cannot find the domain or the domain doesn't exist.

Its not a routing problem as I can vnc onto the W2K3 server and can also ping it.

I have also changed the pcs to join a workgroup and then try to join the mydomain2 but no luck either. I can rejoin the old domain again without a problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Check the DSN settings on the PCs to make sure they are using the new domain DNS server(s).

Run dcdiag from the remote site dcdiag /s:(dc_server_name) to test the directory service from the remote location.

If you pass try joining again.

If you still can't connect afer following VinceF's great advice (especially to point at the new DNS server), you might want to add an entry to the remote client LMHOST files that tells it where the DC for the new domain is. This is not the best solution though. Try to solve your problems through proper use of DNS.
