Alright I have now decided I have no other choice but to change The DNS. I am going from name zero to dns2go. I am slightly confused as to how to change over the accounts. I have 2 seperate accounts with namezero one is mine and one is my girlfriends The each have there own set of user information but I used my own credit card to purchase em. I have been told that the two domains need to be grouped in dns2go with the same email to function properly. Is this a problem with the way I have things setup now? Second is the only thing that needs to be done through namezero is to change the conection addresses? I am a little confused about all of this and could really use some help to get through it.
thanks in advance.

Namezero dns info
Name Servers for: crackerentertainment.com

Name Server 1: GREEN.IDIRECTIONS.COM

Name Server 2: ORANGE.IDIRECTIONS.COM

so for both sites I am just going to change the name servers to dns2go's name servers and thats it right?

Yes - you just need to change to the new name servers. You would do that through your registrar. I can think of no reason why the two domains would have to be "grouped" unless your pointer service can only point one user account to your ip. If this is the case and you can't live with it, One can go to dns2go and the other no-ip or what ever.

Hi all,

The two domains need to be grouped in order for them both to use the same IP address for forwarding to. The grouping is simply a select box that says "grouped" and "ungrouped".

The email addresses that you registered under have no relevance at all when it comes to the sign-up for dns2go.

When you sign-up, it will ask you for your contact email address and you must specify the same address so that all of your domains appear in the same account.

This email address can be any one that you have access to but both MUST be the same.

Hope this helps Wullie

kenhead2002, I was under the impression youhad a dynamic ip because you said something about dns2go which is a dns pointer service for folks with dynamic ips. If you have a static ip, I would suggest moving you name servers to It is a free service and you can have up to five zones (domains) and you can edit the "A" record and "MX" records of each domain. It's just like having your own dns servers. Unlike waiting for 24 to 72 hours for a change to take place, they will happen instantly. They also have other services you get when you sign up. For example, if you server ever goes down, you can forward your domain name to another domain or ip with cloaking so nobody will see the real address in their browser. Same goes for your mail server. I've been using them for a couple years and I love it. You might want to check them out before you go anywhere else. :) There are online docs that will tell you everything you need to set up an account with them and what you need to do to switch to their dns servers. I hope this puts an end to all your problems. Good luck.

does zoneedit open a frame like namezero does or am I safe to give zoneedit a try? This question is for all who have read my older posts.

Alright I think I am just gonna go ahead with dns2go for now since they seem to be the most recomended. I have a quick question about my domains as they stand now though. I have 2 domains as most of you know by now
when I registered the domains with namezero I used my name to register crackerentertainment and my girlfriends to register hleonegraphics so the 2 are not on the same namezero account. Is transfering these two seperatly to dns2go going to cause a problem? when registering with dns2go after the dns tranfer how and when will I group the two domain names and where and when will I use the same email? Anyone who's transfered to dns2go before should be able to help with this.

I never used dns2go so I can't say if you're making the right choice. I did take a quick peek at their site and it seems they charge to forward you e-mail. To answer your question about Zone Edit using frames, the answer is no. I have 2 domains . One is registered through Network Solutions and the other is godaddy. I use Zone Edit to point both to the same ip and have never had a problem. I also have the mail servers for both and a few sub-domains all going to the same ip. My server is down right now because I moved from California to Kentucky, (a long story) and was able to point everything to a friends server and it took just a few minutes. All changes took affect a few seconds after I made the changes. I didn't have to change my e-mail client to point to a new server because my mail server uses the same name, just a new ip. My point was that you can edit your records yourself and as often as you want. Since you can have up to five domains for free, you can host domains for 3 more friends or give ALL your friends a sub-domain, i.e. friend.yourdomain.com. dns2go may be a good choice but I don't think they will let you do all this without a commercial license. Sorry if I'm adding to the confusion. I'm just trying hard to get my birthday star that I didn't get on June 1st. :)

Hi mate,

They do not charge to forward email, they charge for email holding services.

So, if your site goes down, then unless you have the premium service, the email will not reach you. This is a normal occurance for most sites, I think zone edit provide this free but am not sure.

With dns2go, any request for your domain, even a subdomain that does not exist is still forwarded to your ip address. This allows you to have unlimited subdomains if you want. To add a subdomain, you only need to configure apache and it will work, you do not need to do anything on the dns side of it.

Hope this helps Wullie

I am not so concerned with the email side of it anyways I am perfectly happy using my roadrunner provied email for the sites. If I can use the email through dns2go it's just a bonus. I changed the name servers with namezero over to dns2go last night so hopefully I will have a shell of the 2 sites up early next week. I may need more help to configure the dns2go program but I will worry about that then. Hey wulie, once everything is set up through dns2go the virtual host we set will just work right? No need for changes?
I will ask further questions as soon as I hear from dns20 and get the 2 sites registered.
thanks again for all the help.

I can't figure out how to host 2 name servers with dns2go? There is only an option for serveing one name that I can find. please help me.

I seem to be having the same issue as before under dns2go. The second page and folder does not seem to be being hosted. although only one address seems to functioning at a time unlike before. I am hoping that some slight configuartion is the problem and someone can help me out. Thanks in advance

Hi mate,

Normally I would explain how to do this but it is plainly obvious to me that you have not even bothered to look yourself.

If you had looked then you would have seen it straight away.

I explained this in a previous post and am quite simply not going to go through it again.

I am sorry if this sounds arrogant but we are here to help you with problems, not do everything for you.

Hope this helps Wullie

Alright alright stupid question I admit it. I found and grouped the 2 names. I am still getting no connection to the second server however. I did register with the same email and the sites are now group but the virtual host still seems unable to connect to the hleonegraphics.com site? I see nothing wrong with the virtual host info but just in case here it is.

Ok...

You have dns2go forwarding to your IP address on port 8080 and Apache listening on port 80. The connections will never be made this way.

The domain names are not being called as the IP is being used instead.

What did you actually change when you set this up apart from the grouping status?

Hope this helps Wullie

well whatever the defaults are, are what it's set to. I haven't changed anything from the defaults and I haven't change the virtual hosts from what you had set up for me

Does your DNS provider provide technical support? Wouldn't they be the best ones to ask about the vagaries of their system?
