one of my remote offices uses 3-digit exts that start with "1" (120, 121, etc). their SPRE code is "3". My CEO wants this office's SPRE code to be "1" to match all the other offices. Please verify that there is NO WAY I can have exts that start with 1 and also have 1 as my SPRE. And, if this is the case, can I simply reprogram all the exts to start with 3, thus freeing up the 1 for SPRE? is it that simple? I imagine not, that's why I'm asking the experts at tektips. Thanks.

Its a pain, but you would need to change the extension numbers as well

You could re-number every extension number to free up the
1 digit. You need to use pre-transltions, IDC for DDI calls

Old extension 1456

New extension 4456

Create & assign a Pre-translation so 1 is translated to 4. Everytime 1 is dialel dby a users it is automatcially translated to 4

IDC- Incoming translation delete 1 and insert 4

To overcome any issue with users dial the old number then use pre-translation so a user dial 1456 it is translated to 4456. Then after a period of time take out the pre-translation so you can then use teh "1" for the SPRE codes
at a later date

I know its not the answer you are looking for but I add to do it in one of our offices recently and it works also you need to change the voice mail box numbers

thanks for this clear and detailed response. My users are extremely sensitive and the CEO won't even want them to have to start dialing the new ext. He would want to keep the pretrans table forever PLUS use 1 for SPRE. I will tell him I'll have to redo their exts. If I change the exts and the mailbox (it's octel, not mermail, although I don't think that matters) will i have covered all my bases? I want to make sure there's not some other parameter I'm supposed to change. thanks for your help Wayne.

Voice Mail

Don`t forget the MWI`s

The other things are the call forwards, Manager/Sec link ups, Pick Up`s, Hunt,ACOD`s etc

The spre can be up to 4 digits, make a compromise & chg spre to 11, 111, or 1111 across the board alot easier than reprogramming an entire switch and makes boss happy.

no, that wont work. Everything has to be identical office to office. No deviation from the "standard". Thank you anyway for all your help.

so that every office uses 11? forget it. They won't want to tell the users to use a different method. I already to my CEO that I'd have to redo the numbering plan. Thank you for your help phonejack 99.
