Changing Default Gateway on Serenade? 1

Our network folks have redesigned the WAN and we need to change the default gateways on our Aria's and Serenades.

I think I can figure out the Aria, but the Serenade has me for a loop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also will these require a reboot after the change is made?

Thanks,
CJH

You'll need to do the following:

1. Log in with the maint level password
2. @CDLAN to courtesy down the LAN card
3. @up to update mode
4. .m sys 234 to change sys param 234 which holds the gateway address
5. .exit back to @-prompt mode
6. @CULAN to bring up the new LAN card.

This will change the default gateway, but does the IP address/subnet mask of the Octel need to change as well? If so, you'll need to do .m loc MOD:self while the LAN card is down and change the system's information.

Thanks cj38116 - I'll give it a try.

Will this require a reboot or can it be done live?

Thanks,
CJH

No reboot required, if you're doing any digital networking to other systems of course that won't work while the LAN card is down.

Also, you will need to be direct-connected to the system or dialed in via modem. You can't use a telnet session to take down the LAN card :)

The CDLAN is immediate, the CULAN takes a few minutes for the card to upload its brain from disk, so be patient and don't freak when the LAN card doesn't come up immediately.

I have had one or two cases where issuing the CULAN caused a system restart, but that was on a heavy-use system with an older VCU/CPU. If your system is up-to-date and is running smoothly you should have no trouble.

@LANSTAT and @DCS will give you some diagnostic displays of the LAN card, and @CON <port# of LAN card> followed by LAN> L CFG will display what the LAN card currently thinks its settings are.

Hope this helps,

What about a reboot on the Aria boxes? Would that be required?

Also, I think I must not have the Maint. Level login, because I don't get the @LANSTAT, @DCS or any other options.

Thanks,
CJH

I'm pretty sure an Aria restart is not necessary either, just a restart of the LAN card. I'd check the manual to be sure.

Nope, doesn't sound like you have the maint level. That's a shame because you get some very useful commands.
