We changed one of the computer names on a PC on our network to fit with the company policy and rebooted, but the netbios name failed change. Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was the cause and solution.
We ended up having to edit the registry which is obviously not the best way of doing things.

The pc's are in a workgroup at the moment.
Didn't have the problem with any other name changes, just this machine. It had changed the Full Computer Name correctly but for some reason it left the NetBios computer name the same.

Use NBTSTAT -RR to reload the Netbios cache. Then use NBTSTAT -r to show the cache. Depending on your network (WINS, etc).
