Is there a way to change the com settings when installing a modem? It assigns com 5 to the modem

depending on what OS I think??

and if there is already a modem in the port you have to remove it....

check to see if the Baud rate and data bits etc are odd in the COM5, the modem might require these settings, go to the control pannel and double click ports, then go to the settings of the ports and check them in there... Jay~

My new Tae Kwon Do website is up and running!!

Goto Safe Mode
Remove the Faxmodem from Device Manager & Remove the Com2 also
then rrestart the computer & goto Bios Setting
Disable the Com2 in Bios & then shutdown the computer
remove the faxmodem & install it in another free PCI slot & start the computer.
& install the driver when it asks, Your problem will be solved by this

check the Com Port I am sure it will be Com2

thanks for the reply....actually got it going. I removed other references to modems and com2, reinstalled the modem and it's driver and it was placed on COM2.

I didn't need to disable it in the BIOS but now i know for next time if what i did fails.

Thanks.
