Hi I'm trying to use a same report (.imr) to use on a different catalog. I replicated the database and catalog but is pointed to a different location. I connect to my new catalog and open the .imr, these are the popups that I go through before I get to the end error where I can't go any further.
Popup
- Unable to locate catalog:
would you like to search for it? ( I select yes )

Next popup
-This report was created using a different catalog. References to catalog information will be re-established using this new catalog. ( I select OK)

Next Popup
-Query Execution Errors.
***Error***
Data item [\ABC] could not be found.

***Error***
Data item [\ABC] is invalid because it contains additional invalid data items.

This error continues listing all the fields that the report is queryinig. I thought this would be an easy thing to do because the naming is the same. Can anyone shine some light on this for me, is what I'm trying to do even possible or do I have to create new reports???

Carm

Carm,

You can generally change the database a catalog points to without issues if databases are structurally identical. This is often the case when you have a production and test database.

The first warning you received was due to differences in the catalog.

I would test whether the underlying problems are in the catalog structure rather than the database structure by just changing the physical database string pointer under Catalogs | Databases to the new database. If your reports run without issues, the problems are in the structure of the catalog, not the different databases. You can just change the setting back after the test without other issues. This change only affects the computer the change is made on.

If the two catalogs are similar enough, you can open the new catalog, then open the report, and it will open without the warning you mentioned. When you get the warning, you need to be prepared to re-map report objects that show 'New Expression' to the proper catalog objects before the report will run. You may have to reset other report objects that do not show this label, but still cause execution errors as well.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the fast!!! reply Dave, I think I have to remap the report objects like you said. The only thing is I've never had to do this before so this is all new to me, is there any place you can guide me to that may have the steps in order to do this. I checked the online help for remapping and it gave me nothing.

Thanks,
Carm
